Regenerative valves are used in hydraulic systems to improve the efficiency of cylinder movement by combining the oil flow from both the rod and full-bore sides of a hydraulic cylinder. This results in a faster extend or approach cycle, typically without requiring additional power from the pump.

Key Functions of Regenerative Valves:

1. Faster Cylinder Extension: By recovering oil from the rod side and adding it to the flow entering the full-bore side of the cylinder, regenerative valves speed up the extension or approach stroke of the cylinder.

2. Increased Flow Rate: The valve increases the overall flow rate into the full-bore side by combining oil from both sides, allowing for quicker operation.

3. Energy Efficiency: Since the system utilizes oil from the rod side, it helps save energy, as the pump doesn't need to work as hard to supply fluid for the full-bore side.

4. Maximized Force: Once the cylinder’s full-bore side pressure reaches the pre-set value, the valve redirects oil back to the tank and restores maximum force.

• Compactors: Regenerative valves allow compactors to rapidly extend the piston to the work position without using excessive energy.

• Log Splitters: Log splitters use regenerative valves to speed up the approach of the cylinder, making the process more efficient.
